1. Eat street food
2) Choose transportation wisely
3) Spend time on the beach
All beaches in Sierra Leone are free to access – and they are beautiful! Spending time on the beach won’t cost you a penny, so it’s definitely worth remembering if you want to visit Sierra Leone on a budget!
4) Travel during shoulder season
The dry season from November to March is the best time to visit Sierra Leone. December/January is very busy, due to the Christmas season when many Sierra Leoneans abroad return to the country to visit their family, and flights become a lot more expensive.
To save on airfare, visit Sierra Leone at the beginning or end of the dry season – October/November and March/April are good times to visit!
5) Plan your itinerary carefully
Travelling Sierra Leone on a budget takes time. Don’t try to visit the whole country in two weeks using public transport – it simply won’t be possible. We recommend planning your itinerary carefully to focus on one or two main destinations, depending on how much time you have. You can find many convenient and helpful itineraries on our website!
