Traveling into the interior from the coastal capital, travellers will pass villages dotted along the hills overlooking Freetown. Some of the early 19^th-century Krio-style wooden board houses in such villages as Regent, Bathurst, Leicester, and Gloucester remain intact and visitors can join guided tours through these Krio villages, or lace up their boots for a hike up Sugar Loaf Mountain, one of the highest points on the peninsula.
